1. Leave It Alone for 48 Hours

No water. No shampoo. No product.

Don’t touch it. Don’t style it. Don’t throw on a beanie or cap

Let the perm set—seriously, it’s working behind the scenes.

2. Wash It the Right Way

Wait 2 to 3 days before the first wash.

Use a sulfate-free shampoo – it’s gentler and won’t wreck the perm.

i like the "Lee Stafford for the love of curls" shampoo, conditioner and the mask if your hair is super dry. You can purchase this at VITA

Sulfates = the foamy stuff that dries your hair out. Not cool for curls.

3. Conditioner = Non-Negotiable

Use conditioner every time you wash.

Your hair needs moisture or it’ll frizz and fall flat.

Leave a little in if your hair feels dry. Easy win.

4. Dry Smart

Pat your hair dry with a towel—don’t scrub like you’re drying a dog.

Let it air dry, or use a diffuser on low heat.

No blasting it with a hot hairdryer. You’ll fry the shape.

5. Use the Right Styling Products

Go for curl cream, mousse, or light gel, or my favourite "Sea salt spray"

No wax, no pomade, no greasy clumps.

i’ll tell you what works best for your hair type.

6. When to Get a Haircut

  • Want a full shaping cut? Come back 5–7 days after your perm.

  • Just need a fade or neck cleanup? That’s fine after 3 days.

Let the perm settle before going for major changes.

7. Avoid the Rookie Mistakes

  • No pool or chlorine for at least a week

  • No brushing it out like it’s straight hair

  • No sleeping with it soaking wet hair
